Peter and Chiye

Dear Birthmother,

 

Adoption is an amazing and beautiful miracle. It begins with your remarkable and unselfish gift and continues with the love and life provided by the adoptive parents. I know the second part quite well since I was adopted as a young toddler. I am eternally grateful that my birthmother made the difficult decision providing me with a new family whom I love and adore. It is an honor to follow my parents’ example to be able to give a child the love, support, and financial care my parents gave to me.

 

We are Chiye and Peter. We first met late one night in 1989 in Quarteria, Portugal with a brief "Hello". We were members of a professional high diving team. While diving together we were invited to Acapulco, Mexico where Peter competed in the 1989 World Cliff Diving Championships. We traveled to places such as Australia, England, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, and Germany where we were able to participate in history, chipping pieces off the Berlin Wall during the reunification of East and West Germany.

 

After retiring from diving in 1990, we relocated to Florida where Peter's immediate family lives. I obtained my Master's Degree in Physical Therapy and Peter, with a Bachelor's Degree in Real Estate, became a Certified Real Estate Appraiser. Peter is a Real Estate Appraisal reviewer for a national lender. Now, living in California, I am a full-time mom and continue to work one day a week as a Neonatal and Pediatric Physical Therapist working at a Children's hospital.  We were married in 1995. Together we have visited fifteen countries on three continents. We look forward to providing our child the same continuing opportunity for cultural enrichment.

 

About two and half years ago, we were blessed to adopt our son Nathan.  He is the best thing that has happened to us since our marriage.  Nathan is happy, energetic, curious, and friendly and loves to go traveling, fishing, and playing with our dogs. He will be a great big brother.

 

I have lots of extended family here in California and we attend many family events including hosting Easter Dinner at our home for up to forty relatives! We live at the beach, and enjoy the fresh salt air and the sound of crashing waves with our two Maltese dogs and our Siamese cat. Our neighbors are friendly and there are plenty of kids to play and runaround with at the beach. Peter likes surfing, computers, and reading, and he is an accomplished amateur chef. I enjoy scrap booking, sewing, shopping, and my favorite, spending most of my time with Nathan. Together we enjoy snowboarding, fishing, going to the beach, and traveling.  We look forward to teaching Nathan to scuba dive so we can all enjoy the wonders of ocean life together.

 

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter, and considering us as parents for your baby. We promise to give your baby a life filled with unconditional love, laughter, strong family traditions, and opportunities for education and travel, strong morals, and the chance to pursue their talents to become the best at whatever they desire. Most importantly, we would cherish and love this child with open hearts.

 

We know this must be a very difficult decision for you, and we know it is being done out of your unconditional love for your baby. Words cannot express our gratitude. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
